Citrus Memorial’s participation in research and clinical trials keeps us on the forefront of medical innovation. With studies such as the SAPPHIRE WW study which provides the opportunity to implant carotid artery stents — a stainless mesh tube is implanted without a surgical incision in selected patients. Another study is the Variation In Recovery: Role of Gender on Outcomes of Young AMI Patients (VIRGO) which involves 2,000 young women who have had a heart attack, and 1,000 men as a comparison group.
We examine predictors of a broad range of early and one-year outcomes including demographic, lifestyle, psychosocial, clinical, physical, biochemical and hormonal characteristics, as well as genetic risk factors and processes of care.
